Enrico Fulgenzi Racing kicks off with style in Imola.Enrico Fulgenzi Racing’s three-cars-lineup successfully started his Porsche Carrera Cup Italia Campaign, making solid steps forward through the entire weekend.
The race weekend did not start the best way for the italian team, that suffered weather changes and tough track conditions a bit, struggling to show their true pace on track, for all the three cars in the team.
PRO Class, indeed, showed an actually non-brilliant Fulgenzi during both Friday and Saturday, with the Dobermann scoring P11 in qualifying and managing to recover up to Sixth in Race 1, which brought him up to Pole Position for Sunday’s race 2, which was dominated by the #17 with strength and experience from green light up to the checkered flag. The race still wasn’t easy at all: Gianmarco Quaresmini, runner up, was incredibly fast with his sparkling new set of tires mounted on for the race (you have a very limited amount of jokers available during the season) and in the ending laps he tried it all to overtake Fulgenzi and take the lead, not managing to do so thanks to the Dobermann’s experience and race craft.
Here the words of an emotional Fulgenzi, right after the race:
“It’s been a perfect race actually, filled with emotions as Gianmarco was coming back on top in a hurry and i hd to use some techniques to keep him behind and don’t crack under pressure, avoiding him to give it a go for an overtake. We truly had an absoulte rocket in our hands today. I’m a bit disappointed about yesterday’s qualifying that ruined our Race One, but my Team is doing an estonishing job. Huge thanks to the Enrico Fulgenzi Racing crew for the unbelieavable path we’re following together.”
Enrico Fulgenzi and his team won in three of their four latest Carrera Cup Italia appearances.
In Michelin Cup Class, home of the fastest Gentleman Drivers in the italian Porsche environment, Gabriel Rindone and Mike Knutzon (at his first PCCI appearance) suffered the lack of ABS System and experience in the format a bit more, having themself in troubles on both Friday and Saturday and starting from the back in Sunday’s race 2.
Race 2 was a great bounce back from both the MCUP guys, with Mike Knutzon recovering many places with impressive race craft and clever moves on the track, climbing up to P9.
Lovely recovery from Gaby Rindone also, the 2021 Porsche Sprint Challenge Suisse Champion had a rocket start and then climbed back up to Sixth fearlessly and with the fighting spirit that always distinguished him; “Putalito” finally managed to turn his luck after an eventful start of the season. Just one little mistake at the very last corner made him lose two positions under checkered, resulting with Gaby closing in P8 in the Michelin Cup Class.
Overall a shaping weekend for Enrico Fulgenzi Racing, the team can walk away from Imola with a bag full of experience gained in mixed track and weather conditions, still showing the potential of such a young team made of young professionals.
Round two of Porsche Carrera Cup Italia is coming the 4th and 5th of June in Misano World Circuit, same days of the second round of Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo, where EF Racing also will keep going with their hunt at the top of GT Cup Sprint class.
